How to Find Your Vehicle's OBDII Port

What is an OBDII port?

An OBDII port (On-Board Diagnostics II port) is a standardized 16-pin connector found in most cars and light trucks manufactured after 1996 in the United States. Its primary function is to provide access to the vehicle’s onboard computer system, allowing mechanics, technicians, and car owners to retrieve diagnostic information, monitor real-time data, and more. Fleet Aware uses the OBDII port as an interface between the Fleet Tracker module and the vehicle's computer to power the device and access vehicle information.

Most vehicles will have an ODB II port within reach of the steering wheel. You can follow the diagram above to locate your vehicle's port. The numbers 1-7 indicate the most common locations for where the port would be located.

This image shows an example of a standard OBDII port.

What if there is a OBDII hatch door or the Fleet Tracker gets in the way while driving?

Certain vehicles may have an OBDII port located behind a compartment door, or have an inconveniently located OBDII port.

This could cause your Fleet Tracker to prevent the compartment door from closing, or be exposed.

To solve this, All Aware offers the Fleet Tracker extension cable, which is a low profile cable that allows you to move the location of the device and close the compartment door.
