Fleet Aware fleet trackers now support two new driver behavior alerts: Excessive Idling and Speed Limit Exceeded. Read on to learn what these features do and how to make sure your notifications are configured to take advantage of them.
What are the new features?
Excessive Idling: Receive an alert when a vehicle has been idling for more than 5 minutes. Idling events are also visible in trip history and reports, and all reports now include a roll-up total of minutes idled across your entire fleet.
Speed Limit Exceeded: Receive an alert when a vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit on the road it is traveling. This is distinct from the existing Excessive Speed alert, which triggers when a vehicle surpasses a manually configured speed threshold. The new Speed Limit Exceeded alert dynamically compares the vehicle's speed against the actual posted limit for that road. These events are also visible in trip history.

How do I enable these new features?
Both alerts are part of the Driver Behavior notification type. If you already have a Driver Behavior notification set up for events like sudden acceleration, hard braking, or excessive speed, you do not need to create a new notification. Instead, simply open your existing Driver Behavior notification and make sure Excessive Idling and Speed Limit Exceeded are selected under the Select Events step. Then save your changes.
If you do not yet have a Driver Behavior notification set up, follow the steps below to create one.
Desktop App Instructions
Step 1. Log in to the All Aware Desktop App
Step 2. Click Notifications in the left sidebar
Step 3. Click + New Notification in the top right corner of your screen
Step 4. Click Vehicles on the pop-up screen
Step 5. Click Driver Behavior Alerts
Step 6. Configure your preferences:
- Select all vehicles you would like to receive driver behavior alerts for.
- Select the driver behavior event types you would like to be notified about. Make sure Excessive Idling and Speed Limit Exceeded are checked to enable the new features.
- Choose whether to receive notifications at all times or only during specific time frames.
- Optionally pause notifications for a set period after the last alert — for example, 5 minutes — to avoid receiving too many messages in a short time.
- Optionally suppress notifications when selected vehicles are within a defined geofence area, such as your headquarters or a job site, to avoid alerts for expected activity in those locations.
Step 7. Choose Recipients
Click + Add and select the recipient and preferred notification method: email, SMS, or push.
If a contact is not listed, click + New Contact and enter their information to add a new Address Book entry. You can then save and select this contact as a notification recipient.
Step 8. Click Close on the contact window
Step 9. (Optional) Scroll to the top of the page and rename your notification (default name: "Driver Behavior Alerts")
Step 10. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save
After setting up this notification, adjust the vehicle's speed limit threshold to fine-tune your alerts. The vehicle settings page has been updated with a new Speed Limit Exceeded Threshold slider — see that article for details.
